Hello, I’m Claire

I am so excited you have found this space and are taking the first steps to seek out help. I became a counselor out of a desire to help people, which is something I have been drawn to throughout my career. Prior to getting my Master’s degree in community counseling, I worked as a recreational therapist on a pediatric rehabilitation unit. Working in this atmosphere gave me a greater appreciation of working as a team to improve someone’s quality of life. I engage in counseling in the same manner of working together to bring about change and enrich one’s life.

I typically view counseling with a lens of a cognitive behavioral model. This means looking at your thoughts and beliefs and how they form your behaviors and actions in relation to life. Then look for ways to alter them to bring about change. But counseling does not have a one-size-fits-all pathway.

There are several other counseling approaches that I will draw from as we meet, including play therapy techniques. Besides being a license professional counselor (LPC), I am also a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). This credential required additional coursework and supervision to provide play therapy to my clients of all ages. Play therapy is not just for kids! For more information about play therapy, I encourage you to visit the Association for Play Therapy website.
